Hydrogenated Polyisobutene

8/3/2016 Update:  We are now offering a new version of Hydrogenated Polyisobutene.  The main reason for the switch had to do with product availability and lead times.  But as an added benefit, we also found a more cost effective product so the price is lower.  Please note:  this product is NOT Vegan.

Light, non-oily lubricant with good spreading and penetrating properties.  Easily emulsified and very stable.

    • Ingredients: Hydrogenated Polyisobutene.
Hydrogenated Polyisobutene is a clear liquid used:
      - to make your lip products silkier
      - in hair products to condition the hair without build up
      - the product we provide is NOT vegan, it is derived from shark.
      - as a substitute for mineral oil
    • The product we offer is a synthetic saturated hydrocarbon from polymerization of isobutene. It has a
chemical structure similar to Squalane, and has been designed for use in a wide range of cosmetic and pharmaceutical formulations. Use up to about 60% in body oils, 5%-20% in creams and conditioners.

If I can use it on my dry hands and hair without creating an oily residue, then it's a great product. It passed with flying colors.

I love this product in lipglosses.  It is smooth, shiny, and absorbs well.  It is wonderful!!

As I'm learning to make lotions, I'm starting to add this to some of my recipes, and the next generation of my conditioner. The combination of HP and btms seem to make my conditioner creamy, soothing, but not over oily. I use a bit of shea and orange butters in my conditioner, along with D-Pantheol and horsetail extract. With the right preservative, it makes my tangled mess, very nice. If you don't make your own conditioner, it's probably the easiest lotion you can start with and it's very cooperative with preservatives. I use cap-5, because my conditioner is below a pH of 6, barely. If you don't have a pH meter, get one before you use cap-5. It's a fantastic preservative, as long as you're not using it above a pH of 6. I tried 6.3. Let's just say that was a live and learn experience :)
