What's the difference between this and magnesium stearate?

Magnesium STEARATE: used in cosmetics to improve adhesion and slip, and texture. Generally it is used in concentrations of 5% - 10% by weight in a loose powder.
I'm trying to use this ingredient to add more adhesion to an oil based lip glass. Can you tell me how and when to incorporate it into my formula? I added it after heating my waxes and oil's, but it did not dissolve.
