Silk Mica is a relatively large particle mica (averaging 50 microns) which contains no additional whitening, such as titanium dioxide.
It is similar to our other uncolored mica, Sericite, except that it is more silky, whiter, and somewhat more expensive.
Silk mica is recommended as a filler/extender in loose mineral eyeshadow and face powder at a concentration of 10 - 40% because it offers up a soft, smooth texture and it is "mattifying".
For the same reasons, it is also a good choice for cream and pressed powder.

This is absolutely worth the price. I have been using this instead of my sericite, and it is amazing! I love it. It is so silky soft, and does not lighten my colors that much. It actually barely lightens my blends, which makes it a good filler for keeping things cheaper. But it also improves the slip and adhesion of the shadows, and gives a slight shimmer to the product. Great for when you matte colors and shimmers...I am in love with this..YOU NEED TO TRY IT> Don't hesitate, just buy it, you will be glad you did!
I use this as the mica in my oxide blends to turn them into beautiful eye shadows. It has just the right amount of shimmer without looking sparkly.
If you are wanting to create a cosmetic with a subtle inner glow then this is a key ingredient to acheiving that. I have mature skin and do not want shimmer, frost or pearl in my makeup, but i want a subtle luminescence to my skin, silk mica acheives that. It creates that while matte, is not flat or chalky on the skin. If you are wanting an absolutely matte finish then this product is not for you. I find the satiny finish of this product suitable for mature skin, as it illuminates without drawing attention to pores or fine lines. I use this product in a finishing powder that people remark and tell me looks porcelain and amazing.
My first time to create MMU but I could say I am loving this mica and I regret not ordering more than 4 oz. I ue it to most of my blends and my kids love the silky softness it creates!
Silk mica gives a soft shimmer when added to micas; it lightens/frosts/pearlizes. Also, it changes the colors when added to micas like the Blackstar series.
